Architecture Class at President's House
November 25, 2024
Penn Interim President J. Larry Jameson hosted faculty and students from ARCH 3110, “Architecture and Environment,” at the President’s House.
Weitzman Design Professor Vanessa Grossman and Teaching Assistant, Rami Kanafani led the class with students delivering presentations on topics including the work of Julian Francis Abele, the first African American graduate from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Architecture, now known as the Weitzman School of Design. Abele also designed Eisenlohr Hall, renovated into the University President’s House in the 1980’s.
The student presenters were Marren Burgess discussing Julian Francis Abele (Col. 188), and Sketchbook in California from Abele’s trip to Europe + four watercolors and drawings; and Jack Roney discussing the R. Buckminster Fuller proposal for an art gallery for the University of Pennsylvania (Col. 058), and Dome.
